Methodology

"Students retain more knowledge for a longer period of time when they distribute their learning rather than learn everything in one go."

Research carried out by McMaster University, Canada & University of California, San Diego.

METHODOLOGY:

We have joined successful neurological methods such as 'Deliberate Practice', 'Creative Thinking', 'Deep Learning' and 'Active Learning' to create our own active-learning methodology that incorporates a bit of physical exercise, tourism, lifelong knowledge and immersion in local cultures.

Neuroscience has proven that the act of learning a language while travelling and exploring a country, visiting museums, palaces or simply shopping, (and even more so when you drink a coffee or tea in a restaurant or even a glass of wine or beer in a historical pub or local bar,  known as 'active learning', stimulates the hippocampus and builds the memorization that, in turn, creates the synapses responsible for the brain's creativity at the time of speaking; a process known as 'deep learning'.

A DAY IN YORKSHIRE

Meet up at Manchester Piccadilly Station. A coffee and a chat in English before getting the train to West Yorkshire.

What is interesting about active learning is that it creates mindmaps, where everything that is fun or fascinating during the day is connected with the lesson, the historical city, beautiful beach or park or the images of people passing by, and it will trigger memories of that day, including the English spoken, the vocabulary and the grammar.

It's like this that the mind works in its diffuse mode'; the creative mode.

Choose something to eat and drink.

The brain's diffuse mode thinks in every direction, connecting words, pronunciation,

intonation and grammar when you are in diverse situations.

Stroll and chat along the Huddersfield to Manchester Canal where boats and barges carried products during the Industrial Revolution which started in Manchester in 1761. They were produced in Manchester, Huddersfield and other northern cities and often exported through the port of Liverpool.

The Spinning Jenny in 1764 marked the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and brought with it the first fully mechanised production process, although some sources define the start of the Industrial Revolution as July 1761, when the Duke of Bridgewater's canal reached Castlefield.

Rent a barge (boat) to travel for a couple of days, or a bicycle to cycle the 40 km to Manchester.

Enjoy yourself! Discover the DNA of the North of England.

The diffuse mode in the brain works only when you are relaxing, shopping, drinking, and thinking about something else...NOT when you are focused on something.

Maybe you are drinking a beer and watching people go by when, suddenly, an idea comes to you. Or maybe you remember the name of someone or someplace, or the translation of a word.

Time for one more drink and an English lesson before returning 'home'.

There's still time left to study on the train back 'home' to Manchester...or you can sleep a little.......

This is why English 4 Professionals prefers 60-minute lessons where the client can focus for 5 or 10 minutes before discussing a text or a topic whereby the diffuse mode is able to come into play, pushing the client's English to a superior level. And we repeat this method consistently, lesson after lesson, chat after chat, conversation after conversation, debate after debate.

It is the ONLY dynamic way to accelerate language learning. Nothing else comes close to it in terms of fluency,

confidence and progress, especially in the business world.

When all of the above is followed by one or two hours of rest (e.g. time in the park, drinking a glass of wine, listening to music, taking photos, watching Netflix on your smartphone, (to name but a few examples)

the return using the diffuse mode is even greater still.
